Kids in the Kitchen and the Essential Chocolate Milk

The Essential Chocolate Milk

via cincyshopper copycat nesquik recipe

If we are out, we usually carry Horizon's Organic Chocolate Milk, or if we're at Starbucks, the kids would get either order a Kids Hot Chocolate* or pick up a cold Chocolate Milk.

So at home we've been leaning to a Paleo lifestyle, but not adhered strictly, more as a guidance in what we choose to make and eat, which brings me to the daily glass of happiness for us.

As much as we love buying half gallons of chocolate milk, we like having regular milk and to custom make our chocolate milk on as needed basis. Also, we liked to not purchase the hershey syrup nor nesquik products because we don't care for the ingredients found in those products. In the end, our goal is to eat as cleanly as possible and to leave the processed ingredients, as well as ingredients we can't pronounce nor understand excluded from our diets.

This simple recipe from CincyShopper has been a lifesaver! I usually measure the ingredients out for the kids and have them pour and mix the cocoa, sugar, and salt together. Then after the mix is made, we usually go ahead and make a glass of chocolate milk.

Ingredients

We double this recipe and place it in our empty Ghiradhelli Cocoa Container for our home-made Milk Chocolate Mix.

1/3 Cup of Unswettened Cocoa (We use Ghiradhelli's Cocoa)
2/3 Cup of Sugar (We use Cane Sugar)
Dash of Salt

You can combine all ingredients and whisk it, sift it, and generally mix it well so all the ingredients are mixed completely. Since we re-use our cocoa container, we actually just shake the container until we feel that it's well mixed.

The ratio for chocolate milk is 1 TBS to 1 Cup of Milk. Enjoy!

*Always order a Kids Hot Chocolate, it's a tall size Hot Chocolate, but if you don't specify Kids, then they charge you much more instead of the $1.45 for the exact same drink (as of 5/13/2005 - Prices subject to Starbucks pricing)
