You have to download the APP for your tablet. Note if you don't see the APP for your tablet, your tablet is not compatible with the Skylanders Trap Team APP.
We are a family that loves our games! So with Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, iPad, iPhones... well you get the picture, we enjoy gaming!
Since we got the Skylanders Trap Team for the Wii U, we went ahead and purchased the Tablet Starter Packet.
1st of all, it's Console Free.
Be ready to get at least 5 AAA Rechargeable Batteries. 3 AAA goes into the base 2 AAA goes into the controller. If you want to play two player, the easiest way is to get 2 x of the Skylanders Trap Team Tablet Starter Packet and grab the controller out of the 2nd tablet starter pack and grab another 2 AAA rechargeable to power the 2nd controller.
The game is loaded all in one shot, or as you go along. This will take about 6.1GB off memory from your tablet. That's quite a bit of real estate, so it's for a hard core Skylander lover.
The controller and the portal needs you to turn on your bluetooth. The controller is great for kids. It is small weight and light, and you probably won't cringe as much if the controller slips and drops as opposed to your tablet.
The game itself is engaging as our Wii U version. There is not much of a difference, except you aren't shelling out for the cost of a console. Graphics off our 3rd generation iPad is fine. I find my kids wanting to get closer to the screen due to the size difference of tablet vs. tv. Still as an on the go option, especially for vacations, visits to family/grandparents, car trips, blackouts, it's a great option, and both tablet and Wii U console let's us play for as long as our tablet's battery and our 5 AAA batteries last us.
The only thing that irks us is the fact that you can't load your Skylanders for on the go playtime. That means you have to lug the portal, controller, and Skylanders with you if you are in a car. That's a lot of things to bring with you for on the go. Instead, you get the 2 default characters that your starter pack comes with, Slingshot and Foodfight. Talk about not a good idea. I hope future Skylander franchise will allow for us to load and save all the Skylanders we own so we don't have to travel with portal controller and all of our Skylanders.
Another CON, would be the fact that you need Trapmasters to open the elemental gates. That along with getting a trap for each element to capture and/or play with villains. That also means that if your child wants to play KAOS villain, you need to find the all so elusive Kaos Trap.
With the 2 new elements LIGHT and DARK, you also need to get the expansion pack - the Light and Dark expansion pack to open and beat the last 2 villains. The Trapmasters for Light and Dark are the ? Mystery Elements for the Mystery Gates, so be prepared to shell out some money for those.
Still, it's a solid game for the tablet, just be aware of tablet compatibility, amount of real estate 6.1 GB, Batteries at least 5AAA and go with rechargeable batteries, Be ready shell out for Trap Masters for all elements including the new Light and Dark Element as well as traps for each of the elements.
Compared to Spyro Adventures, Giants, Swap Force, the Trap Team is a great game. For those who have invested in the earlier games, the accessories add up. Still, if you don't mind the expense for this franchise, it's been one of the favorite video games that we play at our home. We don't even really touch Disney Infinity that much.
When you don't bring the portal or bluetooth controller.
